December 26

December 26 holds memories that are both pleasant and unpleasant. To the peoples around the world, the tsunami of Dec 26 leaves a scar that is very hard to forget.

To the people of Sarawak December 26 holds the worst marine time disaster that they ever remember.

Over here something that is not less tragic also falls on that fate full day.

Sarawak to hold big bash

MIRI: Sarawak will hold a grand celebration to commemorate the 45th year of independence and formation of Malaysia in all its 11 divisions here soon.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam said every division had been told to organise a special event to mark the day.

“We want to celebrate this 45th year in unique ways. All divisions will organise unique events, based on their ethnic background, diversified cultures and traditions, to mark this day. We want them to showcase the development and transformation of their communities since they joined Malaysia,” he said.

He said they would also hold events to remind the younger generation of Sarawak’s past.

“We hope to get the cooperation of the public and private sectors to host these events,” he said.

Dr Chan, who is also State Industrial Development Minister and State Agriculture Modernisation Minister, hoped those who witnessed the changes that took place in Sarawak in the last 45 years would share their knowledge with others.

“People who have old photographs of Sarawak can also share them in exhibitions,” he added.

On Sept 16, 1963, Sarawak gained independence from the British colonial “white rajahs” and joined Malaya, Sabah and Singapore to form Malaysia.

Tenggaroh state rep gunned down

JOHOR BARU:
Tenggaroh state assemblyman and Johor MIC deputy chairman Datuk S. Krishnasamy was murdered gangland-style yesterday at the MIC headquarters here.

Datuk S. Krishnasamy, Johor MIC deputy chairman was shot point blank in a lift
Krishnasamy, 61, was shot once in the neck at point-blank range by an unknown gunman just as he entered the lift on the ground floor of the building at 2pm.

He had been dropped off by his driver and was on his way up to the second floor for a meeting.

Witnesses in the building in Jalan Segget heard a shot that sounded like a firecracker but thought nothing of it.

Two party members waiting for the lift were shocked to discover Krishnasamy lying face down in a pool of blood as the doors opened.
V. Kamala, a secretary, was on the fifth floor with Johor MIC Puteri chief R. Vitiya Mohan. They were on their way down to the second floor for the meeting.

“The doors opened and Vitiya almost fainted when we saw a man lying in blood. We did not know who he was as we could not see his face. We did not dare go near the body.

“The doors closed and we took the stairs down,” said Kamala at the crime scene.

On its way down, the lift stopped on the second floor where Sri Gading division chairman V. Murugan also saw the body.

“I thought it was Datuk (Krishnasamy) because I recognised his shirt. But I was not sure. I was in shock and before I could do anything, the lift doors closed and I took the stairs down.”

By this time, a small group of people had gathered around the lift as it had reached the ground floor. Krishnasamy’s driver confirmed that it was him and an ambulance was called.
Another witness, Taman Datuk Chellam MIC branch chairman Arumugam Suppiah, said he could see a bleeding wound in Krishnasamy’s neck.

Johor deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said a task force of senior investigators had been formed.

“What is important is that this matter is left to the police and I urge others not to speculate on the motive. Let us do our jobs. If anyone has information, please call us.”

Krishnasamy’s body was brought to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a post-mortem. His body was later taken to his home in Segamat.

The funeral service will begin at 2pm. The cortege will leave the house at No 5, Jln Putra 1/40 Bandar Putra at 4pm for burial in Tangkak. For further details, contact 012-7205891 or 016-7289194

Words of faith inflame Malaysia

Already reeling from ethnic and religious dissent, Malaysia's new rules for religious lexicons have shocked and angered the country's non-Muslim communities. The announcement that only Muslims can use certain Arabic words, such as "Allah", in holy services is especially insulting to the country's Christian, Sikh and Hindu faiths, which for centuries have woven Arabic words into sacred scripts and sermons.

Minister of Health

The portfolio of Minister of Health is traditionally reserved for MCA.

However, past records show whoever that occupies the seat will come to the end of the road in politics.

Ng Cheng Kiat (1990), Lee Kim Sai (1995) and Chua Jui Meng (2004) are indisputable examples who are still alive. Whereas, Dr Ng Kam Poh (1969), Lee Siok Yew (1978), Chin Hon Ngian (1986), Mak Hon kam (1987) and Chan Siang Sun (1989) were older testimonies of similar fate, cast in stone.

Only Chong Hon Nyan managed to break the chain in 1984, when he retired as a short-stint Transport Minister after serving as the Minister of Health.

Let's see if Chua Soi Lek can break the curse this time.

70

Today is the 70th.day. The world seems to be shrinking and getting smaller. I keep on meeting and bumping into the same person. And it becomes very often.

70 holds many mysteries and memories in one's life. In my 70 days here, i have witnessed 2 main catastrophe. Flood and Landslide with the loss of 4 lives......so sad.

70 Day Program was designed to help women makeover virtually every area of their life.

70 days was the duration of DMX jail term in New York Jail.

70 Days of Sweat was the challenge put forward to complete a manuscript.

70 days of Vision Campaign was carried out by Church Doctor Ministries.

70 days working without break for a cane cutter in Brazil caused him his life.

70 days lost in the Outback survived on diet of frogs and snakes,

The list of 70 days could go on and on. But do not forget, Muslims celebrate Eidul Adha, 70 days after Eidul Fitri.

A Guest At Last!

The prophet Abraham (peace and blessings upon him) is the symbol of generosity and hospitality. He never ate unless there was a guest at his table. At one time, a whole month went by and no one came to his house. Nobody shared his food, so he hardly ate for the whole month. Finally he prayed to God and he said, "Oh, God, You have given me this wonderful habit of not eating without sharing my food with someone else. I haven't eaten for a whole month. I wonder if there are other people like me."

God told him, "Go and travel in the world and see if there are others like you." So Abraham began to travel. Finally he found someone who begged him to accept his hospitality, saying, "Look, three months I haven't eaten because I haven't had somebody at my table." Although Abraham had not eaten for one month, here was somebody who had not eaten for three months because nobody had come to his house as a guest.

Abraham happily accepted the invitation of this wonderful man. After dinner, it was Abraham's custom to pray. He said that he would include his host in his prayers and asked the man to pray for him. His host replied that he had given up making such prayers. He had prayed for something for many years, and since God did not choose to answer his prayer, he felt he was not worthy to make such prayers. Abraham asked, "What was your prayer?" His host replied, "I have heard that there is a great prophet here on earth, a special friend of God, by the name of Abraham. For years I prayed to meet him. But my wish was not granted. My mouth cannot be worthy to make such prayers to our Lord. You pray instead."
